Make tax season a little less painful and earn $300 when you file your 2020 taxes after purchasing a biomass-fueled, energy-efficient stove!
Congress officially extended the biomass tax credit under Section 25C of the IRA tax code through December 31, 2020, which means that any qualifying biomass stove purchase made before that date is eligible for a $300 credit on your federal tax form!
What does that mean exactly, though? Simply put, biomass is organic matter, such plant material, that can be burned and used as an energy source or fuel. This means that a wood or pellet burning stove is a biomass-fueled stove and may be eligible for the federal tax credit!
For your biomass stove to qualify for the $300 tax credit, it must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 75% efficient, which your manufacturer or stove dealer can help you with. Many newer models of biomass stoves run with this level of efficiency.
- The stove must have been purchased by December 31, 2020.
- You must have proof of purchase, including the receipts and manufacturer certificate stating that the stove qualifies for the credit.
The tax credit must then be claimed on your federal tax return in the “Credits” section of the federal portion under “Home Ownership and Residential Energy Credit.” Ask your tax professional for more information about filing.
We want our customers to be able to save as much money and hassle as possible when purchasing a new stove! Please ask us about the Biomass Stove Tax Credit for your new purchase or contact us at 978-355-6343 for more info.
